We're celebrating the newest addition to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail!
On Saturday, August 3, the Columbia Gorge Express will make an additional stop for the Historic Highway State Trail dedication. Buses will stop near the new Wyeth trailhead, which is located between Cascade Locks and Hood River.
The stop is very close to the bus route, so it should not impact schedule times significantly. However, it may lead to some delays to Columbia Gorge Express service between Portland and Hood River.
The 8:45am bus leaving Gateway Transit Center on Saturday, August 3, may be full with passengers attending the celebration. If you are planning to travel from Portland to other sites in the Gorge on this day, we recommend that you take a later bus.
If you will take the Columbia Gorge Express to or from the celebration, information regarding the schedule, stops, and fares is below. The trail dedication will start after the Columbia Gorge Express arrives. Click here to learn more about the event.
For those who plan to drive to Gateway or to the event, please know that all lanes of northbound Interstate 205 will be closed for paving August 2 - 5 between Southeast Foster Road and Interstate 84. If this impacts you, please plan to add travel time or take an alternative route.
Getting There 🚌
From Portland, take the 8:45 a.m. bus from Gateway Transit Center ($10 round trip). Boarding is first come, first served so plan to arrive at Gateway at least 15 minutes early.
From Cascade Locks, take the 9:39 a.m. bus that stops on WaNaPa Street in front of the courthouse ($5.00 round trip)
From Hood River, hop on a special event shuttle at 9 a.m. It will pick up at the Columbia Gorge Express stop on North 1st Street and Riverside Drive, near the Valero / Sinclair gas station. Take the Columbia Gorge Express back to Hood River from Wyeth at 12:10 p.m. or 4:15 p.m. ($2.50 one way).
Columbia Gorge Express buses will drop off and pick up at the event shuttle stop. Since this stop is not part of the usual route, the times listed below are approximate. Buses will not depart before the listed time.
Eastbound to Hood River:
9:50 am (drop off for celebration)
Westbound to Cascade Locks and Portland:
We recommend purchasing tickets online, which expedites boarding (if you are unable to use your ticket, you can request a refund). If paying in cash, please have the exact amount. Drivers do not carry change.
Please note that buses can only carry a limited amount of bicycles, so a bike space cannot be guaranteed. Bikes may be stored underneath the bus.
Since the Columbia Gorge Express is a public transit service, we cannot reserve or guarantee seats. We recommend arriving to Gateway Transit Center at least 15 minutes early.
