Columbia Gorge Express will operate July 3 and July 4

6/28/2017

Columbia Gorge Express bus service will remain open on Monday July 3 and Tuesday July 4, providing five consecutive days of service over the Independence Day holiday. Buy your tickets now!

The bus is operating this summer Friday through Sunday as well as federal holidays, but will remain in service on the Monday that falls between Sunday July 2 and the federal July 4th holiday on Tuesday.

ODOT reminds visitors to the Columbia River Gorge to plan ahead. Go early in the day and avoid parking hassles by taking the Columbia Gorge Express. Tips on how to plan, prepare and safely enjoy the Gorge can be found at ReadySetGorge.com

The service started its second year on the Memorial Day 2017 weekend and will operate through Sept. 24, the last weekend in September.

Like 2016, the bus this year carries passengers between the Gateway Transit Center in East Portland and Multnomah Falls with a stop at Rooster Rock State Park, an inexpensive and relaxing way to visit some of the Gorge’s most popular destinations.

New features in 2017 include:

  • Bigger buses to accommodate more riders and reduce wait times.
  • Buses will now accept cash and credit cards, though riders are encouraged to buy tickets online to avoid boarding delays.
  • A staff person at both Rooster Rock State Park and Multnomah Falls during service hours to smooth operations and answer questions.
  • Real time bus tracking to help customers better plan their trips.

ODOT and project partners are evaluating the service and will consider options for expansion in 2018. The service could become daily and extend to Hood River with stops at additional Gorge destinations accessible from I-84.
